I was yesterday at the 2014 FISE festival at Montpellier. The FISE is a very big event that took place along the Lez river that crosses through the city. Sun was high and bright, many people were there to see all the competitors and the atmosphere was very friendly!
The FISE WORLD Montpellier brings together the best riders in the world for 5 full days of competition, from May 28 to June 1st. There are 25 differents competitions: skateboarding, inline, bmx, mountain bike and wakeboard, pro & amateur with more than 400 000 spectators from all over the world!
Competitors were very impressives, probably some of them a bit crazy in their heads because acrobatics were stunning but dangerous for some of them!
I have been very impressed by a new sport called “Gibbon French Slackline“. It’s a rope stretched between two pillars and you can do acrobatics on it. It seems easy when I say that but it’s not! And seeing these people performing back flips and acrobatics was very amazing! Have a look over the pictures below to get an idea of the difficulties!
As in every competitions, ROLLER – SLOPESTYLE was there and style impressive to see that men and women high in the sky! Not easy to take pictures of them, that’s why I used most of the time my magical Pentax FA 2 35mm with pre defined focus point.
Unfortunately, I had to delete almost 80% of my pictures due to a bad estimate of the distance from me 😦
And finally the Wakeboard. I’m not really a big fan of this practice but, anyway, I had a great time to looking at them playing with obstacles and flying over the water!
At the end, it’s always interesting for a photographer like me to attend such an event. I’m used to practice street photography and to go with my 28 or 35 mm to take pictures. When you want to shoot sport activities you have to change your mindset and to always look after to find the best place where to stand to get the best scene and forget about composition or framing.
I was there with my 77mm and 300mm, waiting for the best shot that unfortunately never came 😦 But I will be prepared for the next time! I know what I have to do and what I don’t! I’m definitely not a good sport photographer but it’s challenge to me to get better and to be come back there with better pictures!
To be followed…
